How Practice Tree Racing Works
Bracket racing is won and lost at the starting line. RacePTL brings the real drag-racing tree, staging, and reaction-time timing online, so you can sharpen your light from home, then race other people for it. Here's how it works.
Staging & the tree
You roll in and stage, breaking the pre-stage and stage beams so the tree knows both cars are ready. When both racers are staged, the amber bulbs come down. On a Sportsman (full) tree the three ambers flash in sequence with a .500 delay to green; on a Pro tree all three ambers flash at once with a .400 delay. Leave when the green lights, leave before it and you red-light (foul).
Courtesy staging applies to every head-to-head race: neither racer can stage until both are pre-staged, and a racer who doesn't pre-stage within 30 seconds of their opponent loses by no-show in tournaments and contests, while casual races and Quick Match go back to Ready.
Reaction time, the whole game
Your reaction time (RT) is the gap between the green light and when your car breaks the beam. A perfect light is .000. RacePTL measures RT on a server-authoritative tree exactly like a real track, no chance, pure skill. Better RT and consistency win rounds; that's what you practice here.
Top bulb vs. bottom bulb
Top bulb racers cut on the first amber (with a delay box). Bottom bulb racers cut on the last amber / green with no box. RacePTL supports both, with the correct controls for each class, and never shows a delay-box control where it isn't allowed.
Pro tree vs. sportsman tree
Pro (.400), all three ambers at once, a sprinter's start. Sportsman (.500), ambers in sequence, an anticipation game. Practice both.
Delay boxes
A delay box lets a top-bulb racer react to the first amber and delay the launch by a set amount for a consistent light. Where the class allows it, RacePTL gives you the same delay + rollout controls a real box does, and enforces the rules server-side so competition stays fair.
How competition works
Create or join a head-to-head contest, confirm your entry (your credits move into escrow, held safely), and race a best-of-three. The winner takes the pool; every result and payout is server-authoritative and reconciled. Watch live, review the replay, and run it back.
Head-to-head play uses virtual credits, skill-based. Real-money deposits and paid entries are not available. Guests get 5 demo hits on the Pro tree. Create an account for the full practice tree.
